'Sammy Harkham: Everything Together' Wins the L.A. Times Book Prize for Graphic Novels

Sammy Harkham’s Everything Together: Collected Stories (PictureBox) has been awarded the L.A. Times Book Prize for Graphic Novels , beating out Alison Bechdel’s Are You My Mother? A Comic Drama (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), Chris Ware’s Building Stories (Pantheon), Spain Rodriquez’s Cruisin’ With the Hound: the Life and Times of Fred Toote (Fantagraphics) and Leela Corman’s Unterzakhn (Shocken). In an October, 2012 review, PW called Everything Together "a stunning collection," and said of the story Poor Sailor, based on de Maupassant and featured here, "Between the blood-crazed monsters and blue loneliness, it’s a curiously effective little masterpiece of mood. There are few graphic artists who can combine the tragic and the comic with Harkham’s smashing accuracy." For more this amazing graphic novelist, Kramers Erogot editor and Family bookstore co-owner, see Steve Appleford's profile in The Los Angeles Times.
