Artbook Retail seeks a part-time Bookseller: an individual with an interest in contemporary culture, with a passion for books. This position is sought for a brick & mortar art bookstore, Artbook @ MoMA PS1, in Long Island City located within MoMA PS1 building.

We are seeking an individual who can work 4 days a week (29 hours a week) during the bookstore’s open days, Thursdays through Mondays. The individual must be flexible schedule so to able to work on weekends and holidays, including the time around Christmas and New Year’s.

The bookseller reports to the Bookstore Director and Director of Artbook Retail. The bookseller will be responsible, among other tasks, for the daily operation including sales, store displays maintenance, store inventory management and customer service.

The bookseller will (but not be limited to):
• Set up and close POS and generate sales daily, weekly and monthly sales reports.
• Responsible sales in-store, over the phone, via SM and online.
• Cultivate customer relationships, help manage correspondences, and keep mailing lists current.
• Assist in keeping the store well stocked and organized.
• Provide daily sales reporting to the Bookstore Director.
• Receive inventory, update inventory data, maintain inventory, and process returns and ship.
• Pack and ship books for fulfilling customer orders, processing returns, or transferring inventory between locations.
• Provide information to visitors about the store’s book selection and concurrent exhibitions at MoMA PS1.
• Write text for and post book and event descriptions on social media.
• Aid with special events programming in-store and off site.

A qualified candidate should:
• Have a passion for books and is driven to learn more about current art and culture.
• Can work during the bookstore’s operation days and if needed extended hours in store or of site.
• Have experience in a retail environment, making sales, and working with a team.
• Have strong computer skills: proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is helpful.
• Is detail-oriented, can prioritize tasks, and strives to meet deadlines.
• Be an avid reader and is willing to use their interest to enrich the store inventory and programming.
• Be communicative, patient and friendly.
