Explore the influence of Islamic art and design on Cartier luxury objects

This 1924 Cartier vanity case—made of gold, platinum, mother-of-pearl, turquoise, emeralds, pearls, diamonds and enamel—is reproduced from sumptuous new release Cartier: Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design. According to essayist Judith Henon-Raynaud, the inspiration for this deluxe object—meant to store cosmetics or toiletries—has its design roots in an Islamic pattern on a nineteenth-century Iranian wooden and ivory casket pictured in the archives of the legendary Art Deco jewelry designer Charles Jacqueau, who traveled with Jacques Cartier to Persia, and was deeply influenced.
