Robert Venturi: Complexity And Contradiction In Architecture

Fifty years ago, The Museum of Modern Art published Robert Venturi's seminal postmodern manifesto, Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture, changing the international architecture discourse forever. To mark this anniversary, MoMA and the University of Pennsylvania are putting on a three day symposium. "An architecture of complexity and contradiction has a special obligation towards the whole," Venturi writes in an Introduction that seems more relevant than ever today. "Its truth must be in its totality or its implications of totality. It must embody the difficult unity of inclusion rather than the easy unity of exclusion. More is not less."
