| | | Robert Venturi: Complexity And Contradiction In ArchitectureForeword by Arthur Drexler. Introduction by Vincent Scully.
First published in 1966, and since translated into 16 languages, this remarkable book has become an essential document of architectural literature. A "gentle manifesto for a nonstraightforward architecture," Venturi’s Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture expresses in the most compelling and original terms the postmodern rebellion against the purism of modernism. Three hundred and fifty architectural photographs serve as historical comparisons and illuminate the author's ideas on creating and experiencing architecture. Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture was the winner of the Classic Book Award at the AIA's Seventh Annual International Architecture Book Awards.

| | | FROM THE ARTBOOK BLOG CORY REYNOLDS | DATE 11/11/2016 Fifty years ago, The Museum of Modern Art published Robert Venturi's seminal postmodern manifesto, Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture, changing the international architecture discourse forever. To mark this anniversary, MoMA and the University of Pennsylvania are putting on a three day symposium. "An architecture of complexity and contradiction has a special obligation towards the whole," Venturi writes in an Introduction that seems more relevant than ever today. "Its truth must be in its totality or its implications of totality. It must embody the difficult unity of inclusion rather than the easy unity of exclusion. More is not less." Featured photograph, "Times Square, New York," is by Peter Blake. continue to blog | FORTHCOMING AND NEW: ARCHITECTURE | | Hatje CantzISBN: 9783775764018
