'Tim Burton: Designing Worlds' is perfectly dark and strange for the moment

“One advantage, I think, is my design sense. When you’re drawing, every element, every line, makes up what it is; and there is a feeling of that when I think about a shot.” So Tim Burton is quoted in Designing Worlds, the vibrant, 360-page catalog to the Design Museum’s blockbuster exhibition, on view in London through April 2025. Certainly, this copiously illustrated new release proves beyond a shadow or a doubt that Burton is a master draftsman, as well as an unbeatable imagineur. Given the ever-darker, ever stranger moment that we are currently living through, we thought “Percepto” (c.1996–7) fit the mood.
