Slash: A History of the Legendary LA Punk Magazine, 1977-1980

The cover of the first issue of Slash magazine—featuring Dave Vanian of The Damned and dated May, 1977—is reproduced from Hat & Beard Press' 500-page, fully illustrated and almost sold-out history of the legendary punk and new wave tabloid. "Today this madness is mostly an English phenomenon, but there are signs that it will not stop there," Slash publishers Steve Samiof and Melanie Nissen wrote in their first editorial. "This publication was born out of curiosity and out of hope. Curiosity regarding what looks like a possible rebirth of true rebel music, hope in its eventual victory over the bland products professional pop stars have been feeding us. May the punks set this rat-infested industry on fire. It sure could use a little brightness."
