Ron Nagle: Nagle, Ron

Ron Nagle's 4x9-inch ceramic sculpture "The Bad Clown" (2003) is reproduced from Nagle, Ron, Silver Gate's super-generous new monograph on this supremely interesting San Francisco based artist and musician who has been doing things strictly his own way since the psychadelic 60s. Not only does this book present some of the most independent sculpture and/or ceramic work of the past half-century, it includes a CD with Nagle's music from the past 40 years, plus a fold-out poster jacket. Dave Hickey got it right in 1998 when he wrote, "If Fabergé had lived in California, loved hot rods and surfboards, and been blessed with an impudent art historical wit, on his best day he couldn’t compete with Nagle."
