A Guy Bourdin Fashion Week Valentine

We're celebrating New York Fashion Week with SteidlDangin's classic Guy Bourdin: A Message for You, collecting the late French fashion photographer's iconic work with dancer, model and muse Nicolle Miller (back in stock at last). "Despite what most people may think," Miller writes, "not all models end up sleeping with the photographer. It is not a given, and it was surely not the relationship I had with Guy. What he always transmitted was a feeling of serious work and the creation of something beautiful. Guy seemed much freer in exploring his artistic vision when he was not bound by the dictates of fashion, even though he never had conceded to them in the first place. Nudity was neutral territory as much as it was loaded with all that is implicit in it. Looking at his pictures today, and with the memory of how it was to work with him, I feel that, truly, he was in awe of the opposite sex, not the misogynist he was labeled to be. There is no vulgarity in his work. Rather, he was a man who was intrigued by women."
