A half-century of impassioned transatlantic painting in 'Frank Bowling: London / New York'

Featured spreads are from Frank Bowling: London / New York, a new release this week from Hauser & Wirth. Presenting a rich selection of paintings made over the course of the last five decades, as the artist alternated between studios in London and New York, this gorgeously produced transatlantic exhibition catalog also contains a trove of archival images, an essay by Mark Godfrey and a conversation between Bowling, his wife, artist Rachel Scott, and his son Ben Bowling. When asked about the labor-intensive practice of transporting his paintings back and forth between studios on his biannual trips between the continents, Bowling replies, "I would just roll the lot up and move. And I knew that when I got to the other end, I could roll them out again and continue to work."
