Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao: New York

In Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao: New York , essayist and Museum of the City of New York curator Sean Corcoran writes, "Jeff Liao is part of a long and rich tradition of photographers who have chosen New York as their subject. Yet he has been able to create his own distinct and uniquely sweeping vision of the city by employing the panoramic format and a saturated color palette. Like the melting pot they depict, Liao's photographs from all boroughs and all time periods are mixed together in this volume. While the city's architecture can be dominating and overwhelming, it structures the day-to-day experiences of the more than eight million people who live and work here. This selection demonstrates Liao's attuned sense of place and his flexible picture-making strategies; he adjusts his approach for each situation. With their fluid sense of time , his photographs remind us that New York is a constantly changing organism." St. Patrick's Cathedral, Midtown, Manhattan, 2012 is reproduced from Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao: New York , one of our top holiday gift books of 2014.
