Anders Petersen

Featured image is reproduced from Max Ström's exquisite new monograph on Swedish photographer Anders Petersen. Essayist Hasse Persson writes, "Anders Petersen wants people to recognize themselves in his images. His career has been about photography that creates recognition. He is genuinely interested in the people he meets and his humanistic approach is not about border demarcation. Many accuse Anders of solely depicting outsiders, but this production embraces people from all social classes. And nowhere is there repudiation, rather recognition. 'For me, the photographic instant is also about intimacy with myself. To approach the experience of reality and do more than just describe it. And to try to be present in the experience. At times it's sweet; sometimes I pick up my camera and life jumps into it, like rabbits. Everything is in play.'"
