Arlene Shechet: Meissen Recast

Arlene Shechet's 2012 partially glazed porcelain and gold sculpture, "The Idol," is reproduced from Meissen Recast, Gregory R. Miller & Co.'s beautifully made monograph documenting work made during the artist's 2012-2013 residency at the renowned Royal Meissen porcelain manufactory in Germany—the world's leading producer of refined ceramics since the early 1700s. Some of Shechet's recent works can be seen in an exhibition of historical Meissen porcelain, which Shechet also designed, on view starting today at The Frick.
