Marcel Duchamp and Eve Babitz, 1963, Time
Walter Hopps, the curator of Duchamp's landmark retrospective at the Pasadena Art Museum, helped direct this shot by setting up the chess board in front of the artwork The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelor, Even (1915-1923). Writer Eve Babitz was having an affair with Walter Hopps at the time.

Julian Wasser Book Signing at ARCANA
Sophia Loren, 1962
Loren was living with her husband, the film producer Carlo Ponti, in the hills above Thousand Oaks, a suburb of Los Angeles. This photo was taken at a party after the American premiere of Two Women, which she attended with her husband and the famed Italian producer Dino de Laurentiis.

Julian Wasser Book Signing at ARCANA
Roman Polanski, 1969, Life
Polanski was working on a film in London the night the Manson family brutally murdered his pregnant wife Sharon Tate. The murderers wrote the word "PIG" on the door of the couple's Cielo Drive house in Tate's blood.

John Travolta Dancing, 1977, Time
Travolta was nominated for an Academy Award for Saturday Night Fever, at the age of 24. The dancer Deney Terrrio worked with Travolta to polish the signature dance moves he showed in the film.
