Quiet Sublime: Toba Khedoori

When Toba Khedoori's current traveling retrospective opened at LACMA last year, The Los Angeles Times' Christopher Knight wrote, "Enchanting mysteries burn beneath a fragile surface." Over at ARTFORUM, Andrew Berardini was moved to note "The way through doors. The thingness of things. The sheer magnitude of the sublime." Subtle, enigmatic, intense, pristine. Empty. Khedoori's iconic, super-detailed oil paintings on waxed paper are as quiet and contemplative as they come. Today, the retrospective opens at Pérez Art Museum Miami, so we're featuring "Untitled (Rope 2)" (2011) from Khedoori's beautiful 2013 monograph by David Zwirner Books.
