Benetton Formula 1Benetton's story is a rather anomalous one. It arises from the dream of an industrialist—who has never made cars but instead pullovers—to race his cars in the Formula 1. It was a dream that became a reality in an extraordinarily effective manner. It was a phenomenon, a unique and probably unrepeatable event that overturned the parameters of the world of Grand Prix.Today, Luciano Benetton can look back with pride and mull over how good his team was during those 19 years on the track, first as sponsor and then as constructor. He can remember the figures who took part in the adventure and recall the major events in each season and the numerous drivers, the best being Michael Schumacher, who was unknown when first hired. Benetton as an adventurer in a field not his own and Formula 1 as the backdrop to a thousand episodes that cannot be overlooked—this is the basis for the story that unfolds for the protagonists of this book, which covers a busy, in some ways raging, epoch. Men can now allow themselves the luxury of telling the story, sometimes even contradicting each other, of what happened between 1983 and 2001, with their own behind-the-scenes anecdotes, technical details, secrets and emotions.
Pino Allievi has for years covered Formula 1 for the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. He has written a dozen books on racing (and other subjects) and has won prestigious awards.

Wow Gilles! The legendary Canadian racing driver Gilles Villeneuve died on 8 May 1982 on the Zolder track in Belgium. Villeneuve had spent six years in Grand Prix racing with Ferrari, winning six races and widespread acclaim for his performances. Although he never obtained a world title, he won hearts all over the world. Wow Gilles! covers the “reckless” life of Gilles Villeneuve through the photographs of Ercole Colombo and texts by Giorgio Terruzzi. The voices of these two exceptional narrators (both were eyewitnesses to the Canadian race driver’s over-the-top life) guide us along a journey that begins in 1977 and ends in 1982. From his F1 debut to his tragic accident in Belgium, this spectacular photo album allows readers to relive the romanticism of the sport that characterized those years, of which Villeneuve was a key player.

Max Kueng: Pensive Racing DriversThe picture of jubilant race drivers raising oversized champagne bottles into the air is only too familiar. But the life of a race driver has always been dictated by losses, setbacks, confrontations with technical defects, accidents, disqualifications and problems of an unknown nature. Like life in general, it is difficult. And that is what this book is about.
The first tears that Swiss journalist, columnist and author Max Kueng (born 1969) can remember shedding were on December 16, 1982. It was a Thursday, the day it was announced on the radio that Colin Chapman had died. They were tears of sorrow; Chapman was the founder and the genius behind the Lotus Sports and Motorcar Specialist, which was the focus of Kueng’s interest at the time. Kueng had collected automobile magazines since he was a child and had never missed a single Formula 1 television broadcast. “Cars saved my childhood,” Kueng said. “As a fat, unathletic boy with glasses, I didn’t have any friends—not counting the pile of automobile magazines. Back then I knew everything about cars; that earned me a certain respect, even with the densest, meanest and most brutal town youths. They left me alone instead of constantly beating me up. I am grateful to cars for that, still today.”
