Groundbreaking work by women artists in 'Making Their Mark'

Featured spreads are from Making Their Mark: Art by Women in the Shah Garg Collection, the remarkable, 432-page catalog documenting Komal Shah and Gaurav Garg’s renowned and ever-growing collection of abstract works by contemporary women artists, including Faith Ringgold, Elizabeth Murray and Hilary Pecis (pictured here), among more than 130 such other rising and established luminaries as Pacita Abad, Firelei Báez, Maria Lassnig, Simone Leigh, Lorna Simpson, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Pat Steir, Charline von Heyl and Kay WalkingStick. In her interview with noted British curator Mark Godfrey, who contributes major texts to the book along with curator Katy Siegel, Shah concludes, “I feel that my mission is to shine light equally on great artists whether they have been seen and celebrated or are still underrecognized. So, as a guiding principle of this book, you, Katy and I decided to celebrate all the artists on level playing field. I also acknowledge that despite my best efforts, there are so many artists still to meet and shine a light on, across the world. I have only scratched the surface in my journey of discovery and support. That is the beauty of a living and growing collection.”
