A remarkable feat of facsimile publishing: Lee Lozano: Private Book 2

We see our fair share of classic artist book “facsimile” reprints, and some are better than others. Karma’s newly released edition of Lee Lozano’s second private 3x5 spiralbound notebook of the late 60s / early 70s (part of a series of eleven) is so well made as to be virtually indistinguishable from an original, aside from the lack of effects from aging. Taped-in pages appear to be hand-lettered on both sides; drawings, charts and graphs manage to convey the force of the artist’s imprint; and scribbled-out words add to the overall authenticity. Cigarette consumption, drug trips, conversations with other artists and future ideas are logged with offhand intensity.
