Black History told through the Collected Works of Gordon Parks

“I’m not angry now because I’ve said what I had to say and the way I wanted to say it,” Gordon Parks said towards the end of his life. “I’ve said it through photography. I’ve said it in books. I’ve said it in films. I say it in music. I say it in poetry. No, I wouldn’t want to see any other boy or girl suffer what I’ve suffered. But, if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t have come another way.” Featured image, “Woman and Dog in Window, Harlem, New York” (1943), is reproduced from Volume I of Steidl and The Gordon Parks Foundation’s stupendous, affordable, 1360-page, five-volume Gordon Parks: Collected Works (Study Edition), a staff pick for Black History Month and beyond.
