This accessible 336-page catalog to one of the world's greatest fashion collections features 375 gorgeous photographs of historical couture from the 1600s to the swinging 60s, along with enlightening explanatory texts. Featured here are: a 1911 dress with "hobble skirt" so narrow that the wearer could only walk with short, shuffling steps; a 1965 Yves Saint Laurent "Mondrian" cocktail dress produced for Baroness Gabrielle van Zuylen van Nijevelt with a custom yellow pane in place of the standard red; and a 1759 mantua with matching petticoat and train, most likely worn by an aristocratic Dutch bride on her wedding day.
