A history of MoMA's Sculpture Garden in 'Oasis in the City'

Featured image—of Steve Paxton in Come to Pass (1979), choreographed by Daniel Lepkoff in collaboration with Paxton, Christina Svane and Lisa Nelson on July 27 or 28, 1979, with Henry Moore's Animal Form (1969-70)—is reproduced from Oasis in the City, MoMA's deluxe history of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden at The Museum of Modern Art. Featuring new photographs by Richard Pare, Candida Höfer, Tina Barney, Thomas Struth, Carrie Mae Weems, James Welling, Vera Lutter and Hiroshi Sugimoto, this volume spans from the Sculpture Garden's earliest incarnation as a "happy improvisation" behind the six-story marble and glass museum in 1939 to contemporary performances and installations like Rachel Whiteread's Water Tower in 2017.
