Puddle, Porthole, Portal

If you didn't have a chance to visit Puddle, Porthole, Portal, SculptureCenter's Saul Steinberg-inspired inaugural exhibition at its newly expanded and renovated building (which closed this week), fear not! The intriguing exhibition catalogue, is now available. Featured image, Steinberg's "Rainbow Reflected" (1974) is reproduced from the book, in which Lee Foley writes, "Steinberg's art conveys a particular notion of worldliness: its cartoonish quality reveals the humbling comedy of daily life, while the techniques of mapping and architectural draftsmanship expand the perspective. Through drawing, Steinberg invites the viewer to revisit known territory, and to look beyond it."
