Despite the anachronistic lifestyles of these rodeo riders, Deruytter's charismatic black and white images are neither historical nor nostalgic in tone. Instead, he captures a sense of adventure, and the ability of a community to pursue its own path, both adapting to and ignoring the modern world around it. Deruytter recently had his first solo museum exhibition at the Chelsea Art Museum in New York.
