| "Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) fixtures use a bulb that emits light at wavelengths which deactivate many diseases carried in microscopic airborne droplets. We placed UVGI lights in all of the wards at the Butaro Hospital in order to further lower the risk of infection and disease transmission. Since UVGI is most effective in the upper part of the room, we designed wards to generate an air mixing effect that circulates contaminated air into this zone.
