Museum Store of the Month: Idea House 3 at Walker Art Center

Drumroll, please! We hereby name the freshly redesigned, rethought and reopened store at the Walker Art Center our Museum Store of the Month! A high-design concept store inside a high-design museum (the latter designed by Herzog & de Meuron), the store, now known as Idea House 3, is a super-vibrant space that champions the brightest new ideas in design alongside an ever-evolving selection of smart, well curated books on art, photography, and of course, design.⁠

Designed by London-based Zak Group, Idea House 3 is meant to be "a hub for connecting communities, serving as a platform for robust cultural programming, education and experiences with creative visionaries from throughout the region and around the world."

A friend to innovative ideas and divergent thinking, Idea House 3's selection prioritizes diversity, inclusivity, sustainability and quality.

If you've got a sophisticated loved one on your holiday gift list, this would be the ideal place to find the surprise that gives a rise. From inexpensive books by the cash wrap to limited editions and definitive monographs, all tastes and price points are represented.

According to the Walker Art Center, "Idea House 3 was inspired by the Walker’s Idea House project, which began in the 1940s as a visionary way to bring postwar interior design and contemporary art to a wider audience.

The brainchild of Daniel Defenbacher, architect and then-director of the Walker, Idea Houses 1 and 2 (1941, 1947) presented the latest innovations in domestic architectural, product, and interior design.

Since those first presentations, the Walker has organized dozens of exhibitions exploring the work of architects and designers and the interplay between design, art, and community.

Idea House 3 is an iteration of the groundbreaking concept, reimagined for how we live with design today."
