Museum Store of the Month: The Menil Collection Bookstore

It's been a long, hot summer in Houston, and some Texans in particular really stood up to the challenge of keeping the outlook vibrant, colorful and lively when all around was wilting. We hereby send our respects to the perennial art book connoisseurs of one of the country's great museum shops: The Menil Collection Bookstore.

Museum Store of the Month: The Menil Collection Bookstore

Located across the street from the world-renowned Menil Collection, located on a 30-acre campus in the heart of Houston—with major architectural landmarks by Renzo Piano, Johnston Marklee and others—The Menil Collection Bookstore stands apart as its own, funky, extremely expert self.

Housed in a cool, unexpected and welcoming little bungalow, the store features books that the museum publishes on exhibitions, the collection and special projects, as well as an array of titles by other publishers on contemporary art, architecture and design.

It also features a sophisticated children’s book and toy section, a carefully chosen array of gifts and select offerings of jewelry and artwork by Texas-based artists.

Of course, we love to see our books in such well-curated company!

For example, Hayao Miyazaki, published by DelMonico Books and Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, is one of our Staff Favorites, too.

And Roni Horn: Remembered Words, published by SteidlDangin, reminds us of the Menil's ongoing commitment to this groundbreaking artist's work.

It's also great to see new release Nick Cave: Forothermore, published by DelMonico Books and Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago to accompany the critically-acclaimed exhibition currently on view in Chicago.
