Friday Launch Events at the NYABF

Join us Friday, September 18 for launch events with Conveyor Magazine, Mike Mandel and Christian Patterson in the ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 Magazine Store in the museum's Entrance Kiosk!
To pre-order, email booksmomaps1@artbook.com.

4-5:30 PM: Conveyor launches issue 7, Time Travel, in the Magazine Store.

Friday Launch Events at the NYABF

Exploring time travel by employing the camera as a time machine, Conveyor 7 features Matthew C. Lange, Jeremy Haik, Rachel Sussman, Susannah Saylor & Ed Morris of The Canary Project, Felicia Hokansalo, Jonathon Keats, Katie Paterson, Burkhard von Harder, Susan Dobson (of Pictured Past Preset Future), and more!

6-7 PM: MIKE MANDEL will sign advance copies of the remarkable new edition, Good 70s, co-published by D.A.P. Publishing and J&L Books.

Friday Launch Events at the NYABF

Good 70s is a boxed collection containing facsimiles of seminal, long out-of-print self-published books including the Baseball-Photographer Trading Cards, Myself: Timed Exposures, and Seven Never Before Seen Portraits of Edward Weston, plus previously unpublished work such as Motel Postcards, People in Cars and Mrs. Kilpatric. Select ephemera also enclosed, including a letter to Mandel from model and muse Charis Wilson regarding her husband, photographer Edward Weston, facsimile contact sheets from the Baseball-Photographer Trading Cards photo shoots, and a pack of 10 of the original 1975 baseball trading cards.

This signing follows Mandel's 4-5 PM event in David Senior's Classroom series, where Mandel will screen a never-before-seen 8mm film from the 1970s. Introduction by Good 70s co-publisher Sharon Helgason Gallagher, followed by a conversation between Mandel and co-publisher Jason Fulford.

6-7PM: CHRISTIAN PATTERSON will sign copies of Bottom of the Lake, published by Koenig Books.

Friday Launch Events at the NYABF

Bottom of the Lake is a 256-page facsimile of Christian Patterson's family's telephone book for Fond du Lac ("Bottom of the Lake"), Wisconsin, printed in 1973, soon after Patterson's birth. This artist's book includes found markings and reproductions of materials inserted in the phone book in addition to Patterson's drawings, photographs and marginalia. A book-within-a-book, Bottom of the Lake carefully combines the fact-based phone book with the artist's highly subjective re-imagination of his hometown, playfully juxtaposing different documentary forms and ways of seeing to create a deeply personal, darkly humorous "other" book.

This signing follows Patterson's 5-6 PM talk in David Senior's Classroom series, where he will present a slideshow and interactive telephone pieces related to Bottom of the Lake.

Friday Launch Events at the NYABF

The ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 Magazine Store (above) is located in the museum Entrance Kiosk at Jackson and 46th Avenues.
