Effects is an artist-run journal, edited by artist Christopher Page and writer Orlando Reade and designed by artist Thomas Hutton. Printed in LA in January 2018, the first issue includes new essays, works of art and poetry by contributors including Patricia Treib, Thomas Hutton, Kevin Beasley, Jeffrey Stuker, Aisha Sasha John, Esther Leslie and Melanie Jackson. Styled as an academic journal, Effects is a space for the research of artists and the artistic work of critical thinking. Unlike contemporary art publications concerned with the curation, reception and reputation of finished work and exhibitions, this journal is devoted to the thinking accumulated within the artwork. In the first issue, Matt Rickard writes that by abandoning knowledge as the desired end of language, poetry lets the reader be "free to follow language where it leads." In its focus on "effects," both in the sense of a surface illusion and also a historical reality, the journal solicits and documents the unstable and exhilarating logic of new artworks.

This event is free and open to the public! To order copies of Effects Journal Number 1, e-mail booksmomaps1@artbook.com!
