Museum Store of the Month: Artbook @ MoMA PS1 Bookstore

Drumroll, please! Our June Museum Store of the Month is none other than our own Artbook @ MoMA PS1 Bookstore! A store run by people for people, this is a laid-back place for seriously smart browsing. Art, photography, theory, children's books, artist's books, exhibition catalogs, limited editions, you name it, the Artbook @ MoMA PS1 Bookstore is keyed to the exhibitions on view at the museum, but also always a site of experimentation and expansion in and of itself.

If you visit this weekend, you'll see books related to Deana Lawson‘s solo show challenging conventional representations of Black life and drawing on a wide spectrum of photographic languages, including the family album, studio portraiture, staged tableaux, documentary pictures and appropriated images.

Also a focus in the bookstore, books related to the group show, Life Between Buildings, inspired by the vibrant history of community gardens, beginning in the 1970s, when grassroots groups across New York City began converting unbuilt lots into community gardens during the city’s fiscal crisis. This coincided with artists’ efforts to think beyond the confines of the studio, gallery, and museum as sites for their work, and to consider the politics of public space through an ecological lens.
