Jack Woody founded Twin Palms Publishers (originally as Twelvetrees Press) in 1983, carving out a niche within the photo book landscape by following his idiosyncratic taste and investing in high-quality production. Whether spotlighting the homoerotic work of George Platt Lynes or the horrific documentation of lynchings from America’s all-too-recent past, Twin Palms has a four decades-long track record of publishing the “unpublishable.”

Now under the stewardship of Kevin Messina, Twin Palms leads Artbook | D.A.P.’s Winter list with two exceptional new monographs. Garry Winogrand: Winogrand Color is a groundbreaking tribute to the early color work of the renowned American photographer. While he is most recognized for his candid and lively black-and-white street photography, Winogrand's portfolio also includes an impressive collection of over 45,000 color slides captured between the early 1950s and the late 1960s. The photos in Winogrand Color are drawn from this rarely seen body of work. Also forthcoming from the publisher is Jim Mangan: The Crick, a documentation of the lives of boys who remain in Short Creek, the fundamentalist Mormon epicenter of Warren Jeffs infamy. Mangan follows the boys as they navigate their crumbling community and find refuge in the rugged terrain of the American West, reinventing themselves as modern-day cowboys.

In addition, D.A.P. will distribute Twin Palms’ extensive backlist. Among these offerings are the aforementioned Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America and beloved classics such as William Eggleston: 2 ¼, Ellen von Unwerth: Revenge and Mike Brodie: A Period of Juvenile Prosperity.

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with D.A.P. to make the entire Twin Palms catalog more easily and broadly available to booksellers worldwide,” says Kevin Messina, President of Twin Palms Publishers.

Sharon Helgason Gallagher, Executive Director of Artbook | D.A.P., remarks: “I've admired Twin Palms' remarkable books since I first started my publishing career, so it's a special honor for me personally to now be working with them and their titles. Their program has consistently married first class design and printing with uncompromising editorial vision. D.A.P. is delighted to now serve as their worldwide distributor.”

Founded in 1990, Artbook | D.A.P. is the world's largest distributor of art books and museum exhibition catalogs and represents some 250 different imprints ranging from major museums and international art publishers to small presses in the arts. Notable clients include the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Walker Art Center, DelMonico Books, Skira and Hatje Cantz. D.A.P. has distributed books by and about some of the foremost photographers of the 20th and 21st centuries, and counts Steidl, Damiani and Radius Books among the notable photo book publishers on its list. D.A.P. is very pleased to add Twin Palms Publishers to this roster.
