We will miss Andrea Albertini, adventurous publisher and friend of artists

Andrea Albertini, a prominent figure in photographic publishing who founded and ran Damiani, has passed away in his hometown of Bologna, Italy, after a sustained illness that he fought courageously. Andrea was especially well known for his passion for photography, which he pursued with a unique vision and sensibility.

A boutique Italian publishing house that grew in giant strides since its founding in 2004, Damiani is known for esteemed publications such as the artist magazine Toilet Paper, produced with Maurizio Cattelan and Pier Paolo Ferrari. Andrea was the first Italian publisher of the photographer Bill Owens, and he spearheaded books on many prominent photographers, including Hiroshi Sugimoto, Mary Ellen Mark, Joel Meyerowitz, Andrew Moore, Carrie Mae Weems and Dennis Hopper, among others. A serious personal interest in significant photographers known for their work in fashion led him to publish monographs on such figures as Bob Richardson, Arthur Elgort, Nick Waplington and Ron Galella.

Both outgoing and compassionate, Andrea Albertini was a one-of-a-kind, genuine person with a wonderful sense of humor. We will miss him dearly.
