Never Built New York at Center for Architecture

TONIGHT from 6-8PM, Metropolis Books and the AIA New York Center for Architecture present Never Built New York authors Sam Lubell and Greg Goldin in conversation with Barry Bergdoll for an Oculus Book Talk on the history of visionary unbuilt architecture throughout the five boroughs of New York City, sponsored by the Architect's Newspaper.

Never Built New York at Center for Architecture

Join us at the Center for Architecture on Wednesday, December 14 to hear architecture authors Greg Goldin and Sam Lubell discuss their latest book, Never Built New York with Barry Bergdoll, Meyer Schapiro Professor of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University.

New York towers among world capitals, but the city we know might have reached even more stellar heights, or burrowed into more destructive depths, had the ideas of its greatest dreamers progressed beyond the drawing board. What is wonderfully grand might easily have been ingloriously grandiose; equally, what is blandly unremarkable might have become delightfully provocative. The book touches on alternate visions for Central Park, Columbus Circle, Lincoln Center, MoMA, the UN, Grand Central Terminal, the World Trade Center site among others.

Following their talk, Goldin and Lubell will discuss the themes of Never Built New York with the audience and take questions.

Free for AIA members and students with a valid student ID, $10 for non-members. Register here.
