Pioneer Works to launch 'P“TOPRENS: The Urban Artists of Port-au-Prince' at Red Hook Labs

Saturday, March 19, from 6Ė9 PM, Pioneer Works and Haiti Cultural Exchange present the launch of P“TOPRENS: The Urban Artists of Port-au-Prince, published in celebration of the landmark 2018 exhibition. The program will feature spoken word by writer Jennifer Celestin, live drumming, a performance by multidisciplinary artist Sheila Anozier accompanied by percussionist Tiga Jean-Baptiste, a musical set by composer and turntablist Val Jeanty, and food by Maryse Felix of Belleís Kitchen (formerly of Kombit). Books will be available for purchase at a 10% discount, with the first 20 buyers receiving a free P“TOPRENS T-shirt! Please RSVP here.

Printed in both English and Haitian KreyÚl, P“TOPRENS is at once a portrait of Haitiís capital, a celebration of its arts, and a visionary re-mapping of culture in the worldís first Black republic. Published to celebrate the exhibition that debuted at Pioneer Works in 2018 before traveling to the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, the following year, P“TOPRENS comprises the first major survey of contemporary artists of urban Haiti.
