'Artists' Recipes' Launch & Tasting at Swiss Institute

Please join us for an evening to celebrate the launch of Artists’ Recipes— Contemporary Artists and Their Favourite Recipes by Admir Jahic and Comenius Roethlisberger (Bolo Publishing) and sample featured recipes by Judith Bernstein, Dike Blair, Amy Feldman, Sarah Oppenheimer, and Pedro Reyes. More than just a cookbook, Artists’ Recipes makes a direct link between cooking and art: along with the recipes, the book presents original drawings, collages and photographs by over 80 participating artists in 352 pages. Each recipe is unique and captures something of the artist’s personality.

Pursuing planned procedures while simultaneously accepting chance factors: this is essential for the artistic process of Basel-based artists Admir Jahic (b. 1975) and Comenius Roethlisberger (b. 1971), who have been working together as an artist duo since 2008. All of their work reflects their interest in and appropriation of the calculable, the scientific, the measurable, while in a second step they not only allow for but actively incorporate anything else which might suddenly arise – accidents, mistakes, interaction with other elements, the response to materials within themselves. This gives rise to works that are not only humorous and ingenious, but also sensitive and poetic, addressing the laws of physics whether in the form of light sculptures, photography, installations or actions. -Ines Goldbach
