ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 Magazine Store Launch Party & Kiki Scene "Movement Ball" Sunday at MoMA PS1

Join us Sunday, October 7th, as we celebrate the opening of our second permanent retail space at MoMA PS1, the ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 MAGAZINE STORE.

Meet us at 6PM in the main entrance to the museum, where we will toast the success of our new magazine store! With the help of many hands and minds, we have been working for the past six months to create the ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 MAGAZINE STORE, which represents the best of the current crop of international magazines in all genres – from intensely local food and fashion zines to sophisticated art, design, architecture, media, theory, and culture journals, to daily newspapers and major national magazines, spiced with serial artist's publications that gleefully defy categorization.
As part of this special event we will be launching the brand new DOCUMENT Journal, a bi-annual art and fashion magazine edited by Nick Vogelson and James Valerie and published in Italy by Damiani.

Then at 7PM we will migrate into the Dome in the museum's courtyard for "The Movement Ball," a "Kiki" scene performance event featuring video projections by ASSUME VIVID ASTRO FOCUS and an exclusive preview of the work-in-progress documentary Gestureby artist Sara Jordeno and ballroom performer Twiggy Pucci Garcon.

If you’ve seen the 1990 film Paris is Burning, then you know that balls aren’t a new thing. They’ve been held by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities of color for about 50 years as a safe space for raucously fun and judgment-free self expression–even for straights. The “Kiki” scene is a gay ballroom subculture that caters to participants under the age of 18. This weekend's event will be the first ever public presentation of this underground scene.

You must RSVP for both events in order to attend.
