Afreaks, Volume II of Damiani's gold-edged Haas Brothers series, follows the 32-year-old twin designers to South Africa, where they worked with local craftswomen to create beaded objects that are charming, perplexing, funny, exuberant and serious all at once. "The Afreaks exalt in a cultural mash-up," Chee Peralman writes. "In them we recognize archetypes from the world of African gods, but we can also see echoes of Big Bird and Sesame Street.
