Sébastien Lifshitz: Amateur
Amateur consists of four volumes and unites a vast collection of amateur photographs assembled by filmmaker Sébastien Lifshitz over the last 20 years. Found at flea markets all over the world and in photo galleries or on the Internet, they are divided into four themes: the uncanny, empty places, blurs and beachsides. Each volume revolves around one of these recurring themes, playing with the different frames, the changes of light, movement and subject in order to create an immense poetic collage.
PRAISE AND REVIEWS
Lifshitz’s assemblages leave the viewer to imagine where the images come from, who took them and what they mean; he masterfully invites interpretation.
L'Oeil de la Photographie
Lifshitz’s collection shows the human experience, by people for people...It is a messy, chaotic, strange, beautiful, and sometimes blurry celebration of life and all of its oddities.
