ARTBOOK @ MoMA PS1 JOBS & INTERNSHIPS
Artbook Retail Stores
New York and Los Angeles Internship Positions Winter | Spring 2021
Artbook stores are looking for interns who are interested in how independent bookstores are coming to terms with the 21st century retail reality. The internship is remote with the possibility of in-store tasks if agreed upon and as circumstances allow. The stores follow the Covid-19 guidelines at all times at both locations. The virtual internship allows for a long-distance internship experience, an unusual situation given that independent bookstores are, by nature, rooted in a specific place and therefore engage with local residents and culture.
The intern will assist staff using all available virtual means to promote the store locally and internationally, engage store visitors and build ongoing virtual relationships using the means each store has at its disposal.
We are seeking a 16 hour/week minimum commitment. Hours need to be flexible in accordance with ongoing projects. We expect to learn new skills from the interns. In exchange, we introduce them to the inner workings of an independent store.

Founded in 2004, Artbook partners with cultural organizations seeking to enrich their programming with the manifold offerings of an independent bookstore. Artbook Stores are vibrant sources for cutting-edge art publications: presenting a wide selection of current publications on contemporary art and the humanities to contextualize art practice and criticism in unexpected and compelling ways; reflecting cultural trends worldwide; and complimenting their host organization’s exhibitions and programming. Artbook Stores own extensive event program features book signings, readings, screenings, discussions and experimental talks by artists, curators, performers and critics, serving as a hub for current culture.
Artbook runs an independent bookstore at MoMA PS 1 in New York City and at Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles in the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District.
MoMA PS1 is one of the oldest and largest nonprofit contemporary art institutions in the United States devoted to contemporary art. Functioning as a living, active meeting place for the general public, MoMA PS1 is a catalyst for ideas, discourses, and new trends in contemporary art. MoMA PS1 was founded in 1971 by Alanna Heiss and has been an affiliate of The Museum of Modern Art since 2000.
Hauser & Wirth opened its Los Angeles location in March 2016 in a former flour mill, creating a vibrant communal space with a dynamic events program. In addition to supporting and collaborating with many local and international cultural organizations, nonprofits, and universities, the Los Angeles gallery fosters public dialogue with the arts through a range of activities that engage the city’s diverse population.
