| CanadaOne of the first contemporary galleries based on the Lower East Side, CANADA opened in 2000, originally occupying a small basement space. The gallery was founded by a small group of artists—Phil Grauer, Sarah Braman, Wallace Whitney, and Suzanne Butler—committed to promoting the work of both emerging and established artists, including Joe Bradley, Matt Connors, Brian Belott, Katherine Bernhardt, Xylor Jane and Joanna Malinowska. In addition to solo and group shows by gallery artists, CANADA has hosted a range of unconventional events, exhibitions, and performances. The gallery was set up as a commercial instrument in order to critique and compete with the art marketplace of New York. As an artist-run cooperative, CANADA remains unconventional in its structure and divergent in its programming. CANADA opened its current space, located in a former printing shop on Broome Street, in September 2013.

A comprehensive monograph on New York–based photographer Mary Manning (born 1972), Grace Is Like New Music includes hundreds of images that span the last decade of their production and are arranged into multiphotographic compositions. Designed in collaboration with long-time friend Joe Gilmore, the book portrays Manning’s creative community in New York, London and elsewhere, and depicts subjects and sensibilities inspired by their interests in dance, film, fashion and poetry. Using a basic point-and-shoot camera, Manning captures people, nature, the street and everything in between. Their practice is an exercise in recording and collecting, an effort in paying attention as a . . . .go to book page >> | | Free Shipping UPS GROUND IN THE CONTINENTAL U.S. FOR CONSUMER ONLINE ORDERS | CANADAPbk, 9.25 x 12.75 in. / 296 pgs / 288 color / 8 bw. | 2/7/2023 | In stock | US $70.00 |
