EVENTS & SIGNINGS AT ARTBOOK BOOTH A24
WILLIAM MULLAN, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14: 4:30–5:30 PM
William Mullan’s obsession with apples began when he saw his first Egremont Russet. Fascinated by its gnarled, potato-like appearance and shockingly fresh, nutty flavor, Mullan began searching for, and photographing, rare apple varieties. In Odd Apples, each apple is lovingly rendered and styled according to its individual “personality”—a combination of its looks and its flavors. Published by Hatje Cantz.
ANASTASIA SAMOYLOVA, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15: 2–3 PM
FloodZone is Miami-based Russian photographer Anastasia Samoylova’s (born 1984) account of life on the knife-edge of the Southern United States: in Florida, where sea levels are rising and hurricanes threaten. Anastasia Samoylova & Walker Evans: Floridas is a conversation between Samoylova and Walker Evans’ photographs of Florida. Samoylova has photographed Florida on intensive road trips. Evans photographed it over four decades. Twisting the visual clichés, these two remarkably discerning observers convey Florida’s dizzying combination of fantasy and reality. Both books published by Steidl.
FRANCESCA CAPONE AND CONTRIBUTORS SARAH ZAPATA, ALLISON PARRISH & MARTHA TUTTLE, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16: 12–1 PM
The Weaving Language series examines the poetics of weaving traditions through historical research as well as contemporary practices. Attempting to dismantle and rebuild commonplace understandings of the history of writing, Weaving Language I: Lexicon focuses on fiber-based forms as a longstanding but often overlooked medium for record keeping, storytelling and poetry. Published by Essay Press.
ALEXIS ELTON, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16: 2–3 PM Alexis Elton will present Scent Map—an experiential, multi-sensory interactive invitation to connect with the natural world through aromatics. This limited edition features three boxed sets, each containing five different hydrosols or aromatic waters, steam distilled in small batches with wild foraged or sustainably grown plants. Each box includes a map of where the plants were grown and suggestions on how to best experience the scents.
