In 2009, Japanese photographer Lieko Shiga (born 1980) captured 97 images of couples traveling by motorcycle through the streets of Bangkok. She would align herself from her moving vehicle and ask the passenger on the back seat to look directly at the camera without smiling, because "smiles tend to hide the authentic face."
