"Is the man really looking at himself? Isn't his smile a little distorted? Is it really his own smile or perhaps that of someone else? If reflected image is a symbol of the inner self, it seems to stand for something other than what the man pretends to be. It is not the exaggerated self-love, but the relationship between what one pretends to be and what one really is, that is of interest in this context."
