In Drifters, Pam Longobardi (born 1958) transforms oceanic marine debris into installations and photographic works. Traveling the shores from Hawaii to Italy, the artist intercepts and redirects the flow of discarded plastic. The resulting works make powerful visual statements about waste.

"The world and its objects are redolent with meaning. To choose among them is an act of
highlighting, juxtaposing, and creating. Longobardi in Drifters has selected a set of objects which bear witness to unseen events across stretches of ocean and over decades of time.
These worn objects bear the scars and rubbings of space and time. They reveal the interaction
between human culture and the relentless tides of nature. Like quasi-intelligible hieroglyphics, they speak to us of a mysterious world--of our worlds--parts of which have been repressed,
