It was here, in a ravine near Kyiv, that in September 1941 occupying Nazi forces shot 33,771 Jews in the “Holocaust by bullets,” followed over the next two years by the murder there of nearly 70,000 more people. Babyn Yar: Past, Present, Future includes a historical overview of these events, the Holocaust in Ukraine and the ravine itself. It also showcases archival imagery, contemporary photographs of the site, groundbreaking research produced by the Center for Spatial Technologies, and artistic and architectural interventions by Marina Abramovic, Maksym Demydenko and Denis Shibanov, Manuel Herz, Andrés Jaque / Office for Political Innovation, Anna Kamyshan, Oleh Shovenko and others.
