"More than 150 years later, with the invention of the digital camera, photography is the art medium and the portrait the art genre where the creative lay person can compete most effectively, or thinks s/he can. What can portrait photography achieve today, in the face of media over-production and ubiquitous photographic images? What is the significance of a representation of a person today, in the face of new technologies with which any picture can be manipulated quickly, easily and cheaply and the human body can be changed and beautified?
