Gerhard Hoehme (1920–1989) was a protagonist of 1950s German Action Painting, and an early interpreter of the picture plane as an “energy field.” In the mid-1960s he began to incorporate sewing patterns, tablecloth, foil and colored polyethylene into his pictures.
