A "best of" selection of works from the renowned German photographer known for his miniatures and staged tableaus
Frank Kunert (born 1963) is one of the most distinguished German photographers of his time. He began taking photographs as a teenager, initially displaying an interest primarily in landscapes. After receiving formal photographic training he dedicated himself to studio work. In lengthy processes, he builds precise miniature worlds, which he presents to the viewer as deceptively real everyday worlds. Rooms, houses, bridges, towers: his architectural situations are both reflections of inner emotional and social states. In their apparent banality, the surreal scenes are an expression of a present that is as familiar as it is uncanny. This "best of" collection presents a selection of works from three of his books already published by Hatje Cantz Verlag. It not only pays tribute to an extraordinary artist, but also to many years of successful collaboration between the artist and publisher.
