Elliott Jerome Brown Jr.: Conversations at The Fair

Edited by Matthew Leifheit, Marley Trigg-Stewart. Text by Elliott Jerome Brown Jr. Interview by Kameelah Janan Rasheed.

Elliott Jerome Brown Jr.: Conversations at The Fair

New York artist Elliott Jerome Brown Jr. explores the relationship between photographic portraiture and scenes from an adult theater

This is the debut monograph for American artist Elliott Jerome Brown Jr. (born 1993). It includes 30 recent photographs that explore representation through privacy and fiction, alongside interviews conducted by Brown with denizens of an adult movie house and video arcade in East Elmhurst, Queens, New York, called the Fair Theater. Featuring a conversation between Brown and Kameelah Janan Rasheed, the text is richly illustrated with artworks by Chris Berntsen, Roy DeCarava, Naima Green and Wolfgang Tillmans.
Born in Baldwin, New York, Elliott Jerome Brown Jr. is an artist who uses photography to explore representation through privacy and fiction. Occasionally the work turns away from standard archival prints to examine photography as a sculptural, redactive and site-specific process.
