Nicolas Party: Murals

Text by Jamilee Lacy.

Nicolas Party: Murals

A luxurious linen quarter-bound monograph on the wall murals of Nicolas Party

Mostly working in soft pastels, Swiss artist Nicolas Party (born 1980) has also experimented with pietra dura, ceramics, installations and sculptures, on various scales from the intimate to the gigantic. This linen quarter-bound volume documents his temporary mural works, which are often commissioned for institutional exhibitions and usually removed once the show closes. Collected together with a generous image selection and detail shots, these murals coalesce into a universe of brightly hued fantastical landscapes, characters and motifs, where perspective is heightened and skewed to uncanny effect to evoke deeper meanings. This in-depth exploration of an ephemeral aspect of Party's work is authored by Jamilee Lacy, Executive Director of the Frye Art Museum in Seattle.
