Revitalizing the sonic legacy of one of the most sacred sites in Eastern Orthodoxy Published with Musée d'Ethnographie de Genève .
A spiritual center of Eastern Orthodox monasticism for over 1,000 years, Greece’s Mount Athos exists apart from much of the modern world. Today, nearly 2,000 monks continue to dedicate their lives to prayer, ritual and worship, sustaining a tradition passed down through generations. Echoes from the Holy Mountain presents this extraordinary cultural and spiritual heritage through a 2xLP vinyl edition and a bilingual (English/Greek) book. Drawing from sacred chants, contemporary sound works and critical texts, the project approaches Athos not as a distant relic, but as a living space whose practices, sounds and philosophies continue to resonate in the 21st century.
